What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused awareness. It’s something all of us move in and out of every day — when we’re deeply absorbed in a book or movie, during prayer or meditation, or when we slip into a “flow state” where time seems to disappear.

In hypnosis, the mind becomes relaxed yet alert, open to new perspectives, insights, and positive change.

Brain Waves and Hypnosis

Our brains naturally cycle through different “wave states” throughout the day:

  • Beta     – Everyday thinking, analyzing, planning.
  • Alpha  – Relaxed awareness; light meditation or daydreaming.
  • Theta  – Deep relaxation, creativity, imagery, meditation, and just before sleep.
  • Delta   – Deep sleep and physical restoration.

Hypnosis occurs in the Alpha and Theta ranges, where the mind is relaxed but still aware — a doorway into deep focus and healing.

Common Myths About Hypnosis

“I’ll lose control of my mind.”

Not true — you remain fully in control and aware.

“I’ll be asleep or unconscious.”

Hypnosis is not sleep; it’s a state of focused relaxation.

“Only certain people can be hypnotized.”

Everyone can experience hypnosis because it’s a natural state of mind.

What Hypnotherapy Really Is

The goal is not to “make you do something.” — It’s to help you. Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that utilizes hypnosis, and it’s state of focused attention, to help individuals address various mental and physical health concerns.

A hypnotherapy experience can help:

  • Release unhelpful beliefs and habits.
  • Strengthen confidence, calm, and resilience.
  • Explore deeper insight and inner resources.
  • Open pathways for healing and positive change.

Results can be subtle or profound, immediate or gradual. Each person’s experience is unique, and integration may continue in the hours, days, or even weeks following your session.

"Hypnosis isn’t something done to you. It’s something you allow yourself to experience — safe, natural, and empowering."
